2024 Beijing Great Wall concert to mark China-Russia ties

A concert kicked off in Beijing's suburban Yanqing District on Friday to mark the 75th anniversary of the establishment of China-Russia diplomatic ties.

The Russian National Youth Symphony Orchestra under the direction of maestro Yuri Bashmet, pianist Denis Matsuev and opera singer Ildar Abdrazakov, together with famous Chinese musicians, performed world masterpieces of classical music at the Great Wall of China.

The Great Wall is not only the greatest structure in human history, but also a symbol of the resilience of the Chinese people. And these days, it has witnessed cultural exchanges between two nations.

The concert took place on an open-air stage next to the Badaling section of the Great Wall.

Russian musicians were delighted with the very opportunity to perform next to this historical and cultural monument.

"Of course, this is a special concert today, because this place is historical, it is legendary, it is iconic both for China and the world in general," said the world-famous Russian virtuoso pianist Denis Matsuev.

The performance began late in the evening.

Renowned Chinese musicians, including singer Yin Xiumei and violinist Luo Chaowen, performed on the same stage with Russian artists.

The program included musical works by both Russian and Chinese composers. All this certainly brings fresh energy to the cultural exchange between the two countries.

"First of all, I am honored that conductor Bashmet invited me to join this concert. The China-Russia relationship is very good, with exchanges in economy, music and culture growing," said Chinese violinist Luo Chaowen.

On May 16, Chinese President Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin launched the Year of Culture between China and Russia.

The concert on the Great Wall is just one of the events aimed at deepening the mutual understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries.
