All "Taiwan independence" diehards defying law shall be punished: spokeswoman
All diehard "Taiwan independence" separatists who dare to defy the law will be punished in accordance with the law, said a spokeswoman of the Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council on Wednesday.
Chinese authorities on June 21 issued a set of guidelines on imposing criminal punishments on diehard "Taiwan independence" separatists for conducting or inciting secession, allowing the death penalty and trials in absentia in relevant cases.
Based on the Anti-Secession Law, the Criminal Law, and the Criminal Procedure Law, the guidelines took effect upon release.
On the effectiveness of the guidelines for Taiwan, Zhu Fenglian, the spokeswoman, said at a press conference that "Taiwan is a part of China. This is an irrefutable legal fact and a general consensus of the international community. China imposes criminal punishments on diehard 'Taiwan independence' separatists for conducting or inciting secession in accordance with the law, which has a solid jurisprudential basis and sufficient legal grounds. It is integral to defending our national sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and it is also a just act to safeguard the common interests of compatriots on both sides of the Taiwan Strait and the fundamental interests of the Chinese nation. All diehard 'Taiwan independence' separatists who dare to defy the law, no matter where they are, will be chased to the end by the state law enforcement and judicial organs and severely punished in accordance with the law."
