Asia's largest high-altitude space engine simulation test facility built in northwest China's Shaanxi
Asia's largest high-altitude space engine simulation test facility has been put into use upon completion of its construction in Tongchuan County of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, according to the Academy of Aerospace Propulsion Technology on Tuesday.
This platform will be mainly used for the development of speed reduction space engines, marking a major breakthrough in the development of key technologies for ensuring execution of China's manned lunar probe program.
"Before the construction of this high-altitude simulation test facility, China's largest high-altitude space engine simulation test capacity couldn't match the test conditions for large thrust space engines. Therefore, it became imperative to build the new facility. With the joint efforts of the entire staff, Asia's largest high-altitude space engine simulation test platform was built in just 8 months," said Li Guanghui, researcher with the Academy of Aerospace Liquid Propulsion Technology.
Li said that the main function of the test facility is to simulate the real working environment in space to test the space engine's working performance.
Due to the great difficulty of scientific research, only a few countries have so far mastered the technology to produce high-altitude space engine simulation test facilities.
