Bangkok hosts BFA roundtable to offer Asia's solutions to global challenges
The Boao Forum for Asia (BFA) roundtable was held in Thailand's Bangkok on Monday, themed on "Future of the World: From the Perspective of Asia".
Organized by the BFA, the roundtable aims to prepare Asia for the UN Summit of the Future -- a high-level event to be held next month by the United Nations -- collecting Asia's perspectives on global challenges to promote countries in the region to implement the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and deliver on sustainable development goals.
At the opening ceremony of the roundtable, Dennis Francis, President of the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), said via video link that the roundtable was held in time and that BFA was a pioneer of the Summit of the Future as it played an important role in promoting global and regional peace and prosperity.
"The UN Summit of the Future will respond to many arduous tasks. Now, Asian countries are standing at the center of the world stage, so we are responsible for making Asia's voices heard and offering Asia's solutions to global issues with good reason at this critical moment," said Zhang Jun, Secretary General of the BFA.
Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese Foreign Minister, sent a congratulatory letter to the opening of the roundtable.
During the roundtable, Ban Ki-moon, chairman of the BFA, announced that the BFA Annual Conference 2025 is tentatively scheduled to be held from March 25 to 28 in Boao, in south China's Hainan Province.
Founded in 2001, the BFA is a non-governmental and non-profit international organization committed to promoting regional economic integration and bringing Asian countries closer to their development goals.
