Big collective weddings bring joy to over 5,000 newlyweds

Over 5,000 couples on Sunday tied the knot at group weddings ceremonies featuring traditional Chinese rituals held in Beijing and 49 other cities across China, filled with joy from the newlyweds and blessings from the public.

The All-China Women's Federation, the National Ethnic Affairs Commission, the Ministry of Civil Affairs, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs and the Political Work Department of the Central Military Commission co-hosted the group wedding ceremonies for over 10,000 young people.

The grand jubilant event was held simultaneously at the main venue in Beijing and 49 branch venues in various provinces, autonomous regions, municipalities and the Xinjiang Production and Construction Crops, where 5,105 couples from the mainland, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR), Macao SAR and the Taiwan region dressed in traditional attire to tie the knot.

In Beijing, 75 couples dressed in traditional Chinese attire interacted via live connections with those in the branch venues across the country. These newly-weds together made the promise of life-long loyalty and accompaniment.

"Our happiness has been magnified many times by the group wedding ceremony, which is quite elegant for us. We should carry forward the traditional virtues of our Chinese nation and pass on these good family values and conduct to the next generation," said Yu Yaxin, one of the newly-weds.

In Changchun City, northeast China's Jilin Province, the newly-weds who work on the production lines of an automobile manufacturing company arrived at the wedding venue in the factory in the new domestically designed and manufactured cars to receive blessings from their families and friends.

In Qiqihar City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, red-crowned cranes, which symbolize loyalty and love, were released at the outdoor wedding venue to bless the newly-weds.

Unmarried young adults were invited to witness the event in Chongqing Municipality in the southwest, where matchmaking activities were held on the sideline.

In Ji'an City and Jiujiang City, east China's Jiangxi, the newly-weds planted Osmanthus trees symbolizing auspiciousness and prosperity after the group wedding ceremony, to express their wish for a bright future and happy life.
