China achieves best overseas performance at Paris Olympics with 40 gold medals

China's Olympic delegation concluded its journey at the Paris 2024 Olympics with 40 gold medals, setting a new record for the country at overseas Olympics.

The Chinese sports delegation delivered a record-breaking performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics, winning 40 gold, 27 silver, and 24 bronze medals across 11 major events and 14 sub-events, totaling 91 medals.

This achievement marks the country's best overseas performance since it comprehensively participated in a Summer Olympics abroad in 1984, said Zhou Jinqiang, deputy head of the delegation at a press conference held in France on Sunday.

Chinese athletes set one world record and established nine new Olympic records at Paris 2024. Meanwhile, China's six traditional strongholds, including diving, table tennis and weightlifting, amassed 27 gold medals, accounting for 67.5 percent of the total, according to Zhou.
