China commemorates 97th Army Day with nationwide celebrations
China celebrated the 97th anniversary of the founding of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) on Thursday with commemorative activities held across the nation.
On Thursday morning, a solemn national flag-raising ceremony took place at Nanchang August 1st Square in east China's Jiangxi Province, with soldiers and civilians joining in the celebrations.
"97 years ago, the Chinese PLA, led by the Communist Party of China, was born here. Today, standing here witnessing the solemn flag-raising ceremony, I am deeply moved by the enduring strength of our country's people's army," said Zhou Kai, a local resident in Nanchang.
The legacy of China's revolutionary past was vividly celebrated in different commemorative events.
One popular event, the "In Search of Revolutionary Footprints" exhibition at the Eighth Route Army Lanzhou Office Memorial Hall in Lanzhou, in northwestern Gansu Province, showcased the enduring impact of the country's revolutionary history.
In the eastern province of Fujian, the Longyan Central Soviet Area History Museum organized storytelling sessions known as 'Red Story meetings'. These gatherings paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives for the revolution and aimed to inspire a revolutionary ethos among participants.
In the southwestern city of Puer in Yunnan Province and Sansha in the southern province of Hainan, local military bases hosted open days, offering school children a firsthand look at military life and providing educational insights into the nation’s defense.
In Wuxi City in east China's Jiangsu Province, community programs are supporting military personnel and their families with a range of special benefits, providing everything from nutritious meals to essential living assistance and support.
In Yangzhou City in Jiangsu Province, a special art exhibition was organized to honor and strengthen the close ties between the military community and local civilians.
The exhibition included a photo display, featuring portraits of more than 100 local veterans in a series of compelling images taken by local photographers.
In Qilian County in northwest China's Qinghai Province, a group of local medical professionals provided health consultations to military personnel stationed there.
In Zhangjiakou, in north China's Hebei Province, some communities organized special events to pay tribute to retired military personnel and long-serving party members.
On this day, PLA divisions celebrate with flag-raising ceremonies at military bases and on naval ships, along with affirmations of combat readiness and intensive training exercises, reinforcing their commitment to duty and their readiness for challenges.
