China embraces peak wheat harvest season

Wheat-producing provinces in China are embracing the peak harvest season. A total of eight million hectares of wheat have been harvested, accounting for over 35 percent of the overall expected harvest, according to the latest data from the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.

This year's wheat harvest features the application of intelligent agriculture machinery, such as high-horsepower combine harvesters and hay balers, and the implementation of tailored measures to ensure good harvests.

As central China's Hubei Province has completed harvest and southwest China's Sichuan Province is about to wrap it up, farmers in Anhui and Jiangsu, two provinces in the eastern part of the country, and Henan, a province in central China, are busy reaping wheat.

Over 16.5 million units of agriculture machinery are expected to be used this year, with 170,000 in Anhui.

The province, home to about 2.87 million hectares of wheat, plans to complete the harvest within 10 days. Such a rapid harvest can be achieved thanks to high-horsepower combine harvesters, with one such harvester able to harvest about 10 hectares of wheat in one day.

Besides, Anhui has rolled out tailored measures to ensure efficient harvests. For example, cities in different parts of the province will help each other by sending their spare harvesters to the places where they can reap wheat crops.

In Henan, wheat harvest has also entered the peak season. The province, home to about 5.67 million hectares of wheat, has applied new harvester models, lowering the harvest losses to 0.6 percent.

Farmers there also use hay balers, another type of machinery used to compress cut crops into compact bales.

Weather conditions are also considered. For example, Jiangsu, in the eastern part of the country, has formulated a contingency plan in advance to deal with rainfalls in certain areas during this year's wheat harvest.
