China issues blue alert for severe convective weather
China's meteorological authority on Friday issued a blue alert for severe convective weather, warning of heavy rainfall across parts of north and northeast China from Friday to Sunday, with further rain expected from Monday to Tuesday, raising concerns about potential rain-triggered disasters.
The meteorological department warned that northern and northeastern China are currently in a critical flood prevention period, from late July to early August. The forecasted widespread and intense precipitation could lead to potential disasters such as floods, landslides and the flooding of small and medium-sized rivers.
Heavy downpours have recently battered several areas in northeast China's Liaoning Province, causing swelling water levels in Shenyang, the provincial capital, and posing threat to the safety of the dam.
Since last Thursday, Zhujiafang town in the city has faced multiple rounds of rainfall and pressure from upstream discharges.
In response, local authorities have mobilized over 200 people to clear debris from drainage channels, drain flooded farmlands and reinforce the dam.
