China makes historic achievements in rural road development

China has made historic achievements in rural road building with total rural road mileage increasing by 18.5 percent in the past ten years, said the Ministry of Transport on Tuesday.

In the past decade, a total of 420 million yuan has been invested in construction, and about 2.5 million kilometers of rural roads have been constructed or renovated nationwide.

By the end of 2023, the total mileage of rural roads had increased from 3.88 million kilometers at the end of 2014 to 4.6 million kilometers, an increase of 18.5 percent.

China has renovated 63,000 dangerous rural roads and bridges, and conducted the safety and life protection project of 1.3 million kilometers.

Bus services have covered all the qualified towns and villages across the country, and over 11,000 passenger, freight and postal lines have been opened.

From January to April this year, China added 20,000 kilometers of newly reconstructed rural roads nationwide and the country's fixed asset investment in rural road infrastructure amounted to 109.27 billion yuan.

"Next, we will promote a new round of rural road construction and renovation, constantly improve the rural road network and service facilities along the roads, and further improve the level of rural road safety protection and transport service capacity," said Zhou Rongfeng, director of Highway Bureau under the Ministry of Transport.
