China's power consumption up 7% in April

China's electricity consumption, a key barometer of economic activity, climbed 7.0 percent year on year to 741.2 billion kilowatt-hours (kWh) in April, data from the National Energy Administration showed Friday.

Specifically, power consumption by primary industries expanded 10.5 percent year on year to 9.6 billion kWh, while power consumption by secondary and tertiary sectors hit 517.1 billion kWh and 127.0 billion kWh, up 6.2 percent and 10.8 percent, respectively.

The electricity use in homes in April registered a year-on-year increase of 5.9 percent to 87.5 billion kWh.

From January to April, the country's total electricity consumption surpassed 3 trillion kWh, up 9.0 percent on a yearly basis, the data showed.
