China's software sector maintains robust growth

China's software and information technology service industry reported double-digit growth in revenue and profits in the first four months of this year, official data shows.

Revenue of the sector expanded 11.6 percent year on year to 3.8 trillion yuan (about 530 billion U.S. dollars) in the period, while profits grew by 14.3 percent from a year ago to 431.4 billion yuan (about 60.68 billion U.S. dollars), according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.

From January to April, revenue from software products maintained steady growth, reaching 912.7 billion yuan (about 128.39 billion U.S. dollars), an increase of 8.7 percent year on year. This accounted for 24.1 percent of the total industry revenue.

Meanwhile, revenue from information technology services totaled 2,498.3 billion yuan (about 351.43 billion U.S. dollars) in this period, marking a year-on-year increase of 13.2 percent. It accounted for 65.9 percent of the total industry revenue.

Specifically, the combined revenue of cloud computing and big data services reached 410.7 billion yuan (about 57.77 billion U.S. dollars), with a year-on-year growth of 14.3 percent. This accounted for 16.4 percent of the total revenue from information technology services.
