Chinese farmers' paintings breathe rural life to Starbucks cups worldwide

In a delightful twist, farmers from southwest China's Yunnan Province have taken their artistic talents from the fields to the canvas, creating captivating designs that now grace the cups of global coffee giant Starbucks.

Farmers and painters might seem like an unusual pairing, but these farmers possess a natural flair for wielding paintbrushes as skillfully as they handle their farming tools. Recently, their creations caught the attention of Starbucks.

Earlier this month, the coffee giant unveiled a collection of cups adorned with lively and original designs. These lively paintings, brought to life by Yunnan's farmers, aim to capture the essence of spring and bring joy to customers worldwide.

Among the talented farmers contributing to this artistic collaboration is Zhuo Liping, hailing from Chenggong district in the provincial capital of Kunming.

"I feel very happy and lucky. Through the coffee cups, my paintings will be seen by people in different parts of the country, and even the world,” said Zhuo.

Local cultural authorities recognize the significance of these artistic endeavors and pledge to further promote traditional art while nurturing more artists.

"We plan to revive the historical and cultural scenes of Chenggong District through paintings by farmers, and then to uncover the cultural threads of Chenggong. We will also try to integrate the paintings and other intangible cultural heritage elements into cultural and creative works – which can bring the artisans some economic benefits too,” said Xu Li, chief of Chenggong District Culture and Tourism Bureau.
