Construction of new nuclear power unit starts in Fujian
Construction of the second phase of the Ningde Nuclear Power Plant officially started in east China's Fujian Province on Sunday, marked by workers pouring concrete into the site of the plant's No. 5 unit.
The Ningde plant is Fujian's first nuclear power plant. It was planned to have six nuclear power units of million kilowatts in two phases.
The first four units in phase one were built from Feb 18, 2008, and put into operation on July 21, 2016.
The units No. 5 and 6 of phase two were approved on July 31, 2023. They will use Hualong One, a domestically-designed third-generation nuclear reactor, which is one of the most competitive nuclear power models of its kind on the global market.
Each unit is expected to generate nearly 10 billion kilowatt-hours annually, meeting the electricity demand of one million people.
A series of advanced building technologies will be introduced and applied in the construction, so as to ensure high quality in the construction of the nuclear power project.
Units No. 5 and 6 of the Ningde plant will further increase the proportion of clean energy in Fujian.
