Cuba joins South Africa's genocide lawsuit against Israel

Cuba has decided to join South Africa's lawsuit at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) against Israel's genocide in the Gaza Strip, the Cuban Foreign Ministry announced in a statement on Friday.

The move is aimed primarily at "stopping the atrocities against the Palestinian people as a result of Israel's disproportionate and indiscriminate use of force," said the statement.

On Dec. 29, 2023, South Africa filed an application to the ICJ for proceedings against Israel concerning alleged violations of its obligations under the 1948 Genocide Convention in relation to Palestinians in Gaza.

Since then, countries including Chile and Spain had joined South Africa in its lawsuit against Israel.
