Cycling becomes much easier as Paris upgrades cycle lanes for Olympics
Cycling in Paris has become much easier after more cycle lanes, shared bicycles, and bicycle parking spaces are added to the public transportation facilities of the French capital, where parts of the bicycle events of the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics Games are to be held.
Embodying the concept of green travel, in the region of Island of France where Paris is located, 400 kilometers of track have been built for the Olympic cycling events.
The region also put into use 46,000 shared bicycles and 27,000 bicycle parking spaces. Among them, 10,000 parking spaces and some of the newly built bike lanes have been designed for permanent use.
From just 200 kilometers in 2001, Parisian cyclists now have more than 1,000 kilometers of tailor-made bike paths.
A new report showes more people travel by bike than car because it is quicker, and visitors to the French capital for the Olympics are being advised to consider two wheels where it is possible.
Despite improved facilities, cycle lanes have not escaped the impact of the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Traffic jams, diversions, and the closure of cycle lanes are problems that have been part of the daily life of Parisian riders for weeks.
Metro and buses are also an option. However, some metro stations near the Olympic venues will be closed, meaning that hopping on a bike should be one of the smoothest ways to get around during the Games.
The 2024 Paris Olympic Games will take place from July 26 to August 11. The Paralympic Games will then run from August 28 until September 8.
