East China township achieves big success in button industry
People in Qiaotou Township, Wenzhou City in east China's Zhejiang Province, have turned "small buttons" into a big business over the past 40 years through their endeavor and innovation.
In 1983, Qiaotou Township established China's first specialized rural market, the Qiaotou Button Market. Today, over 700 companies operate in the township, with half of them dedicated to button manufacturing.
According to local statistics, by the end of 2023, the township produced about 60 billion buttons annually in more than 10,000 varieties, employing about 16,000 people in the sector. This production accounts for a 50-percent market share in China or 30 percent globally.
