Explosion rocks Chinese port

Rescue operations are underway after a powerful explosion hit a container ship berthed at the Ningbo-Zhoushan Port in east China's Zhejiang Province on Friday, local authorities said.

The explosion occurred at around 13:50 on Friday.

After the explosion, local public security, fire and other departments have immediately mobilized and sent rescuers to the scene. The Ningbo Maritime search and rescue center has activated an emergency plan, sending coast patrol boats to the site to join the rescue operations.

Preliminary investigations showed that the dock workers and crew members of the ship are all safe.
