Farmers across China celebrate harvest festival
People across China held colorful events on Sunday to celebrate the seventh Chinese Farmers' Harvest Festival.
The Festival's main venue was in Lankao County, in central China's Henan Province, which is often regarded as the heart of China's agricultural landscape.
Meanwhile, in east China's Shandong Province, delegations from 16 cities showcased their local agricultural specialties, highlighting the latest outcomes of rural revitalization.
Southwest China's Yunnan Province has also launched a series of celebrations themed around rural revitalization.
In Guzhen County, in east China's Anhui Province, an exhibition of new grain varieties and agricultural machinery attracted crowds of local farmers.
"I feel encouraged by General Secretary Xi Jinping's festive message and sincere greetings. This year, we have overcome bad weather and other negative factors. The crops are now in good condition. We are welcoming another bumper harvest," said Wang Han, a local farmer.
In northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, the harvest of 3.3 million hectares of rice has gradually begun. By switching to new varieties and new techniques, farmers in Fangzheng County and Qing'an County expect a yield increase of over 3 percent.
In Xinghai County of northwest China's Qinghai Province, the harvest of more than 5,300 hectares of highland barley is underway in a fully mechanized process.
Farmers in Yicheng County, in the northern province of Shanxi, have begun harvesting over 19,300 hectares of maize using advanced machinery.
Autumn is also a harvest season for various fruits, such as kiwis in the eastern province of Fujian and apples in the northwestern province of Gansu.
"We will strive to keep the annual apple output above 1.3 million tons by the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) period, and increase the total value of the industrial chain to over 13 billion yuan (about 1.84 billion U.S. dollars) to forge a pillar industry that unites farmers and benefits them and the entire county," said Jia Junping, director of the fruit industry office of Jingning County in Gansu.
In northeast China's Jilin Province, autumn fishing at Chagan Lake is in full swing, with a single net yielding over 50 tons of fish.
In Xiantao City, in central China's Hubei Province, farmers have begun harvesting yellow eels that they raised in their 16,700 hectares of farmland.
In recent years, the people of Xiantao have built a brand through deep processing of yellow eels and are exporting their products overseas, increasing the income of local farmers.
