Floral displays adorn famous Beijing landmarks ahead of National Day holiday

Distinctive landmarks in Beijing including Tian'anmen Square and the Chang'an Avenue, a major thoroughfare in the city reputed as the "number one street in China," have been decorated with floral displays ahead of China's upcoming National Day holiday.

This year's October 1 celebrations feature even more elaborate decorations in the Chinese capital as the date marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, with the displays along Chang'an Avenue being a traditional fixture of the holiday in Beijing.

A total of 75 new flower varieties have debuted along the road, with many being imported alongside 26 which have been domestically bred.

Additionally, various decorations like flower beds and boxes have been arranged to create a vibrant atmosphere, with this year's floral display extending even further along the expansive avenue which runs right through the heart of the city.

"The scope of floral decoration has been increased. Previously, it was between two places along Chang'an Avenue, that is, between Jianguomen (of the East Second Ring Road) and Fuxingmen (of the West Second Ring Road). This year, it extends between two bridges from Guomao Bridge (of East Third Ring Road) to Xinxing Bridge (of the West Third Ring Road), so the scale is expanded. Meanwhile, in order to create a better urban landscape, we have added three-dimensional flower boxes to the bridge railings and planted seasonal blooms to create a warm and festive ambiance," said Song Xuemin, an official from the urban greening department of the Beijing Municipal Forestry and Parks Bureau.

The centerpiece of the celebrations is an 18-meter-high flower basket which has been placed in the middle of Tian'anmen Square to serve as an auspicious decoration for the upcoming National Day.

The giant basket holds artificial colorful flowers and vegetables such as pumpkins, pomegranates, calabashes, and moutan peonies, as well as Chinese roses, with the impressive installation symbolizing good wishes for prosperity.

During the National Day holiday, Beijing will introduce over 2,400 cultural activities and tourism routes, offering local residents and tourists a diverse list of new leisure options and experiences during the week-long holiday period.

Meanwhile, other regions across China are also making preparations in advance of the upcoming holiday by introducing various themed activities and arranging traffic.

As the demand for air tickets and hotel reservations has been rising in Shenzhen City of south China's Guangdong Province in recent days, several scenic spots in the city are preparing to host vibrant festival activities, including float parades and various other engaging events.

In Haikou City of south China's tropical island province of Hainan, various transportation arrangements have been implemented to facilitate the smooth entry and exit of tourists. Tickets can be booked several days in advance from different ports, ensuring a more convenient travel experience for those looking to make holiday plans.

In addition to utilizing roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) ships, local authorities also plan to initiate trial operations of flatbed freight ships to further enhance transportation capacity.
