FOCAC's 9th Ministerial Conference highlights collaborative efforts

The Ninth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) held in Beijing on Tuesday (Sep. 03) highlighted past achievements and underscored a mutual commitment to strengthening partnerships in building a shared future for China and Africa.

Foreign ministers and economic ministers from 53 African member countries of the FOCAC, and representatives of the African Union and other regional and international organizations were among more than 300 attendees of the meeting.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said at the conference that the rise of the Global South represented by China and Africa is profoundly influencing the development of human society and that the summit will surely set a new milestone for the Global South to move forward together toward modernization.

"'Joining Hands to Advance Modernization and Build a High-Level China-Africa Community with a Shared Future' has been chosen as the theme of this Summit of FOCAC, which meets the requirement of historical progress and reflects the common aspiration of the Chinese and African people," he said.

Wang said that both China and Africa have continued to deepen strategic mutual trust, carry forward traditional friendship, firmly support each other, and work together to implement the nine cooperation programs announced by President Xi at the opening ceremony of the 8th FOCAC ministerial conference held in Senegal in 2021.

Senegalese Foreign Minister Yacine Fall reflected on the achievements of past collaborations and said that Africa is willing to further link the African Union's 2063 Agenda with China's Belt and Road and other global initiatives.

"Through a series of outcomes, follow-up and implementation reports of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, which will be presented to you in a moment, we will be pleased to see the contribution of the FOCAC to the social and economic development of Africa," she said.

The implementation of the outcomes of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the FOCAC in 2021, and results of China-Africa development cooperation and China's assistance to Africa were reported at the conference, which also reviewed and adopted the agenda and draft outcome document of the forthcoming 2024 FOCAC summit.
