Giant Panda Mothers and Cubs in Western China National Reserves
Over the past two months, several wild giant panda mothers and cubs have been observed in national reserves in western China, indicating a growing population of the rare species.
A mother panda and her cub were observed in the Mashan area of the Giant Panda National Park in southwest China's Sichuan Province, with the cub estimated to be around 7-8 months old. There are approximately 3-4 mother pandas with cubs in the Mashan area.
Giant pandas typically raise their cubs and teach them survival skills on their own, with the cub following its mother for 1.5 to 2.5 years after birth.
Other panda mothers followed by cubs were captured in the Changqing National Nature Reserve in northwest China's Shaanxi Province.
The frequent appearance of pandas indicates an improving ecological environment and an increasing number of giant pandas in the wild.
