Haitian residents protest against gang violence in Port-au-Prince
Haitian citizens gathered to stage protest outside the Transitional Presidential Committee and Prime Minister's office building in Port-au-Prince on Monday, demanding that the government strengthen security measures and improve the economy and people's livelihoods.
Protesters took to the streets of Port-au-Prince, expressing disappointment and anger over the local security situation. They called on the government to take immediate action and improve the overall security situation.
"People with disabilities are all forced to sleep on the streets because gangsters have evicted everyone from their homes. The lack of security here makes it impossible for me and other disabled individuals to travel," said a local resident.
"The unsafe situation has had a significant impact on me. I can no longer go to work, and many people lost their jobs, let alone people with disabilities. Although we are unable to work, we still have to pay for our children's education and provide for their basic needs. We are always on the run," said another resident.
Armed gang violence in Haiti has escalated since Feb 29. Hundreds of thousands of people in the capital city of Port-au-Prince have been displaced, and nearly half of the country's population is experiencing severe hunger.
Armed gangs in Haiti launched an attack on the National Police's anti-gang special forces on Sunday, killing three police officers and injuring one. This has sparked outrage among local residents towards violence.
