Hot air balloon festival opens over colorful mountain landscapes of Gansu
A national geopark renowned for its stunning palette of colors across steep cliffs and unique rock formations in northwest China's Gansu Province kicked off its 4th hot air balloon festival on Tuesday.
The festival in the Colorful Danxia Scenic Spot in Gansu's Zhangye Danxia Geopark included six airshows, where 36 hot air balloons, piloted by professionals from across China, provided a spectacular display against the backdrop of the site's unique landscape, with the vibrant colors of the balloons contrasting beautifully with the deep red and orange hues of the rock.
Alongside the ballooning, visitors were drawn in by a music festival and a themed photography contest that showcased Zhangye's rich culture.
The past few years have seen Zhangye's Colorful Danxia Scenic Spot successfully developing a variety of low-altitude tourism offerings, capitalizing on its distinctive landscape. The site, which offers attractions like helicopter rides, powered paragliding and hot air ballooning, attracts over 50,000 visitors annually.
This specialized tourism generates annual revenues exceeding 25 million yuan (about 3.5 million U.S. dollars), with total earnings surpassing 100 million yuan (about 14 million U.S. dollars).
