Sandstorms sweep Inner Mongolia
Sandstorms caused by a cold wave have swept many parts of north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region starting Friday, impacting customs clearance at the largest land port on the China-Mongolia border.
Strong wind lowered temperatures and brought floating sand and dust to central and western parts of Inner Mongolia on Friday.
A strong sandstorm hit Mandula Port in Baotou City at 17:00 Friday, reducing visibility to less than 200 meters.
The port launched emergency response to extreme weather, opening all the inspection channels to ensure smooth customs clearance.
A strong gale moving at a speed of 24 meters per second and sandstorms hit Erenhot on Friday and Saturday, the largest land port on the China-Mongolia border, forcing the Erenhot rail port to implement emergency response.
The Inner Mongolia meteorological center issued a blue alert, or the lowest-level alert, for strong wind at 10:00 Sunday, saying that most parts of the autonomous region expect to see wind with an average speed of around 13 meters per second, bringing floating sand and dust.
