Southern China responds to coming Typhoon Yagi

The provinces in southern China have taken measures to respond to Typhoon Yagi, which is expected to affect coastal areas in the next few days.

According to the local meteorological office, Yagi, the 11th typhoon of the year, has formed in the eastern part of the South China Sea. The strengthening typhoon is predicted to move westward, bringing heavy rains and waves to coastal cities.

The Guangdong provincial headquarters for flood, drought and wind control has issued a level IV wind alert on Tuesday, which is the lowest on the four-tier standard.

The Haikou city transportation, port and maritime administration arranged for the ro-ro ships to leave the port on Tuesday and take shelter at the mouth of the Zhujiang River in Guangdong.

The administration also plans to close Haikou New Port on Wednesday and allow only booked trucks carrying fresh produce and booked passenger cars to pass through South Railway Port and Xiuying Port before the two ports close on Wednesday. The three ports will reopen depending on the weather.
