'Spasskaya Tower' Int'l Military Music Festival concludes in Moscow
The 16th "Spasskaya Tower" International Military Music Festival concluded in Moscow on Sunday evening, with a grand closing ceremony held on Red Square.
The military band of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) participated in the ten-day military music festival at the invitation of the organizing committee. The band delivered a series of impressive performances and received much applause at the closing ceremony.
They staged the Chinese military songs such as "March of the Steel Torrent", "The Army and the People Go Forward Shoulder to Shoulder", and the Russian folk-style song "Kalinka".
"We have mixed the elements of Chinese folk music and Chinese military songs to convey the Chinese voice to the world," said Wang Gang, a suona player of the PLA military band.
During the festival, the Chinese military band performed at various venues, including the All-Russian Exhibition Center, the Kuzminki Park and the Manezhnaya Square, drawing a cumulative audience of over 500,000 people.
At the All-Russian Exhibition Center, Russian residents danced heartily to the band's beats, and Chinese students studying in Russia also flocked to the scene, waving Chinese national flags and cheering.
At the Manezhnaya Square, an art troupe of the Dong ethnic group of Liping County in southwest China's Guizhou Province that was participating in the Moscow A Capella International Open Vocal Festival in the Russian capital also took the stage together with the PLA military band, captivating a significant crowd.
"We sang together the 'Ode to the Motherland'. At that moment, I felt a surge of emotion, and the pride of being a Chinese and Chinese soldier," said Yuan Wei, conductor of the band.
"This military music festival has once again demonstrated to the world the fine conduct of the Chinese People's Liberation Army as a mighty force with good manners. We will continue to tell China stories through the military music," said Zhu Weiming, an officer with the PLA Honor Guard Battalion.
This is the third time that the PLA band was invited to take part in the music festival, following the previous two events in 2015 and 2019.
A total of 23 teams from nine countries including Russia participated in this year's event.
