Traditional Chinese cultural elements shine at 'Frankfurt Chinafest'

A dazzling array of Chinese cultural elements captivated locals at the just concluded "Frankfurt Chinafest," the largest Chinese cultural festival in Germany.

The Frankfurt city center came alive with shows combining recitation, acting, singing, dance and music being staged. Drawing inspiration from the Tang Dynasty (618-907) poems and artifacts, the performances were meant to showcase the splendid literature and arts of ancient China's "golden age."

Iconic Hanfu dress styles from different dynasties were also on display to revive the traditional attire that reflects the distinctive cultural and historical contexts of a certain era.

"I have been to China before due to my job and had good memories there. I met with my Chinese wife and then we have a lovely daughter. Because of this connection to China, I miss the country very much and hope to go there again soon. I am very happy to participate in this event," said Michael Detlefs, a German resident.

First launched in 2019, the Frankfurt Chinafest has become an important platform for China-Germany cultural exchanges. The festival this year featured an unprecedented scale and a modern twist on traditional culture, allowing German visitors to experience Chinese culture up close while easing the homesickness of Chinese people living overseas.

The event was held from Aug 2 to 4.
