Two sides of Chinese-built Magufuli Bridge in Tanzania successfully connected

The two sides of the main Magufuli Bridge across Lake Victoria in Tanzania's Mwanza region were succesfully connected on Sunday.

As a flagship project of China-Africa cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, the Chinese-built bridge will cut cross-lake travel time from the current two hours to four minutes, thus injecting vitality into local socioeconomic development.

The main bridge has a total length of 520 meters. While building the bridge, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), the constructor, has incorperated green construction techniques in the project to minimize the impact of construction on the lake's water quality.

Following the connection, the bridge will enter the phase of asphalt paving and ancillary projects construction. The bridge is set to be completed and open to traffic by the end of 2024.
