Venezuela celebrates Independence Day
Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro presided over a military parade commemorating the 213th anniversary of the country's independence on Friday.
The parade, held in the capital city of Caracas, included over 10,000 armed police and featured 46 Russian soldiers as special guests.
President Maduro delivered a speech expressing gratitude for the support from brotherly countries and called for peace.
"Fortunately, we have the support of countries with cutting-edge technology in anti-drone combat and our brotherly Russia, China, and Iran. No one should underestimate Venezuela. We are a nation of peace; we cherish peace. When we engage in conflicts beyond our borders, it is for our independence and freedom. We aspire to peace, but we are also warriors," said Nicolas Maduro.
July 5, 1811 marked Venezuela's formal separation from the Spanish crown when its congress approved the Venezuelan Declaration of Independence. Venezuela was the first South American nation to rise up for independence.
