Villagers in southwest China discover giant wild mushroom

An enormous cluster of white wild mushrooms was discovered on Wednesday in a village of Baoshan City, southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The sheer size of the giant mushroom, measuring 90 centimeters in diameter, has stunned villagers living near the mountain it was found.

"We have quite a lot mushrooms around here, but we have never seen anything this huge. It's very rare. We measured it with a steel measuring tape. It stands 80 centimeters tall and 90 centimeters wide," said Wu Shangde, on of the villagers.

Local forestry experts have identified it as Macrocybe gigantea, which is mainly found in the subtropical and tropical regions in China. It tends to flourish during the rainy season, thriving in environments with high temperatures, high humidity levels, and grass-rotting substance.
