Xi, Modi meet in Kazan to steer bilateral ties into right track of growth: spokesman

The meeting between heads of state of China and India helps chart the course for bringing the bilateral relations of the two countries back to the track of healthy and stable growth, said a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman at a press briefing in Beijing on Thursday (Oct. 24).

Lin Jian, the spokesman, made the statement in response to a press query concerning the meeting between Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday.

"On Oct 23 [Wednesday], Chinese President Xi Jinping and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the 16th BRICS Summit in Kazan, Russia, and have reached important consensus on improving and developing China-India relations, charting a clear direction for bring the bilateral ties back to the track of steady growth," said Lin.

"China is willing to work with India to handle the bilateral relations from a strategic height and long-term perspective, strengthen communication and cooperation, enhance strategic mutual trust, properly address differences, and promote the early return of China-India relations to a stable development path, to make positive contribution to regional and global peace, prosperity and advancing the multipolarization of the world," the spokesman noted.
