Xi's visit to Tajikistan ushers in new chapter for bilateral friendship
Chinese President Xi Jinping's state visit to Tajikistan has ushered in a new chapter for the friendship between the two countries, as evidenced by the signing of a joint statement to build a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new era.
At the invitation of Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Xi visited Tajikistan from Thursday to Saturday.
Xi arrived in Dushanbe on Thursday after attending a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana and paying a state visit to Kazakhstan.
Xi was warmly welcomed at the airport, with more than 1,500 young Tajiks dressed in national costumes performed songs and dances, and waved the national flags of China and Tajikistan to express their warm welcome to the most honored guest from China.
Rahmon held a grand welcome ceremony for Xi at the Palace of the Nation in Dushanbe the next day.
On the same day, the two heads of state also held small-group and large-group talks.
"No matter how the international situation changes, China will always be Tajikistan's trustworthy friend, reliable partner and close brother," said Xi.
After their talks, Xi and Rahmon signed a joint statement on developing a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership in the new era between the two countries.
During Xi's visit, he also awarded a prestigious "Friendship Medal" to Rahmon.
The Friendship Medal is China's highest state honor for foreigners, awarded to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to China's modernization, promoted international exchange and cooperation, and safeguarded world peace.
A grand medal-awarding ceremony was held at the Palace of the Nation on Friday.
This medal, Xi said, represents Rahmon's exceptional contributions to the development of China-Tajikistan relations and reflects the sincere hopes of people from all walks of life in both countries for a bright future.
Rahmon, a senior leader and statesman in Eurasia, is the founder and promoter of China-Tajikistan relations, Xi commented.
On the same day, the two heads of state attended the inauguration of a parliament building and a government building aided by China in Dushanbe.
On Friday evening, Xi had a cordial and friendly chat over tea with Rahmon.
Rahmon bid farewell to Xi at the airport on Saturday after Xi wrapped up the visit.
Rahmon presented to Xi a photo album of his three visits to Tajikistan since 2014 and once again warmly congratulated Xi on his successful historic state visit to Tajikistan.
On the way to the airport, local overseas Chinese and representatives of Chinese-funded institutions waved the national flags of China and Tajikistan on both sides of the road, congratulating Xi on the complete success of his state visit.
